Counterfeit Drugs Inspection

Counterfeit pharmaceuticals represent a serious public health risk. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that roughly 10 percent of the world’s pharmaceuticals may be counterfeit or substandard, with some regions of the developing world with far higher rates.

Using Raman spectroscopy, Truscan/Truscan RM examines the chemical composition of all components of a pharmaceutical dosage—APIs, excipients, fillers, dyes, and coatings—to create a spectrum representative of the specific authentic material. Any slight deviation from the original formulation will lead to a detectable change in the resulting spectrum. This makes Truscan/Truscan RM an ideal tool for rapid detection of counterfeit pharmaceuticals in the field.

Currently being used by regulatory agencies in the US, Europe, Africa, and Asia, as well as 9 of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies, Truscan/Truscan RM improves the safety of products.
